Hallo!

I am owner of 06 Forester 2.0 n/a, european version with 158 hp (EJ20).
It suffer hesitation between 2000 - 3000 rpm like many other Subarus with this engine.

I have already made log and check timing before and after ecu reset. All symptoms are there like described in previous posts.

I have mechanical skills but no in electronic area, so, I would like to find someone that would repair ecu for me.
I have already contact Sasha_A80, but with no answer yet.

Is there someone else that can do this, because I would really like to sort my car once an for all.

Regards

Hi guys,

I will describe my case very briefly.

I have a Subaru Legacy 2006, manual transmission, 2.0R engine, 218 000 km mileage.

The car does the discussed problem, with power loss and hesitations.

1. It was really fine.
2. Recently started making the problem between 2000 and 3000 RPM
3. Without performing any actions by me, the problem moved by itself in the range of 1800/2000 - 2500 RPMs?!??!
4. Two - three days afterwards, again without performing any actions by me, the problem dissapeared. I didn't do change into the fuel, I didn't make an ECU reset..., in other words - nothing.

The car is very very good, like interior and exterior, and I like it very much. I don't want to sell it, but obviously I don't have an options. Nobody fixed this issue, noone is certain what exactly causes the problem. Why my car changed the range of the RPMs, and then fixed by itself (I'm 200% sure it won't last forever). There must be a reason - in the software, or in the hardware. The ecu reflash, soldering the capacitors and tuning the ignition maps are just workarounds, and not solving the problem.

Proper ecu tuning solves 2000-3000RPM hesitation problem.

Ok, I know. But more important is why the engine behave like this, there must be something broken, and should be fixed by changing parts or something.

I want to fix the reason, not the symptoms. Why so many km was fine, and suddenly changed, something must be happened.

There is nothing broken.
There is a marketing feature - the engine ecu refuses to adopt to an old engine.

Are you telling me that the ecu knows the mileage of the engine, and in a particular moment it decided that the engine is became old and start retarding the ignition advance?

If yes, why it fixes by itself from time to time, as is my case? Also it is strange that it changes the RPM range.

Once again:
This is a problem of rattling AVCS that cause a false knock signal.
FHI knew the problem and there were software updates that postpone just coming engine hesitation for a year or so.

I see, but how the update postpones the hesitation for a certain period? Maybe with the time the problem became worse?

FHI update makes minor changes in knocking processing.
Subaru officials are waiting you to buy another car.
